Last week, we volunteered at the annual Juneteenth celebration at St. Philip’s School in south Dallas. They hold a summer camp for students and neighborhood kids where they can learn about Juneteenth’s history and take part in some fun activities.

We had a wonderful time! For our station, we brought some architectural interior samples and set up a station where they could design a room using magnets and cut-out pictures on a whiteboard.

Yes, we’re a small business, but this is what Bishop + Ivy is all about – connecting with our community.

We’ve written about it before, but it bears repeating: Bishop + Ivy loves Dallas. We are based in Oak Cliff, home to so many local gems, historic homes, and talented people. We do what we do because we want to help our neighbors and other local businesses look their best.

We want to keep Dallas as a whole unique and attractive. We want local businesses to thrive. We want people to want to live here and to spend money at those businesses! A little facelift to the structure here or a tweak to the interior there is sometimes all it takes. And we’re here to handle it for you, no matter the size of the project.

Similarly, we want your homes to be more than just the places you sleep and raise children – but also a retreat from work and a cozy abode to wind down in each night. We want your homes to be places you are excited to wake up to in the mornings. Places to host friends and family on holidays or just for a cup of tea when you need to chat with a friend.

For our historical renovation projects, it’s all about ensuring the integrity of what makes this almost 200-year-old city wonderful. There is so much old-school charm built into parts of Dallas that nobody wants to see wiped away by the biggest cost-saving construction measure or a cluster of cookie-cutter, short-term vacation rentals. There are old buildings that need to be reinvigorated and redesigned, sure. And that’s where we come in!

We can do it all. And it’s crucial that our work is mindful of the surrounding communities, Dallas as a whole, and our clients’ ultimate wishlist. This is our home, after all.

Celebrating Juneteenth – a holiday that has always been important to many, but that was only made federal three years ago – is one way we can share our joy with our neighbors. It was such an honor to take part in the event at St. Philip’s. We hope everyone had as much fun as we did.
